A few images from Fenris with about 4.5 months old (taken today).
Everything is OK with respect to allergies (we do not have any) and
Fenris is now very lively and playful. He loves the old farmhouse cat
and drives the mother-in-law's Westhighland Terrier crazy. He retrieves
his toys and brings them back, he goes out with us on the lead line
without much pulling now, and I go for long regular walks with him
through the hills and mountains. We took him to the esplanade the other
night to get him used to walking among many people without greeting
everyone of them. He loves everybody, and goes with us to the local Cafe
house, and loves children especially. He has though started to be a
guard dog and barks when someone comes in from outside. He grew like mad
to begin with, and now he seems to have slowed down a little. We give
him Supreme Happy Dog Maxi Junior now, with some wet food and
"Hundewurst" from the butcher. He also gets lots of raw bones to chew on
and enjoy. He can sit, and lay down and give a paw, and likes to go
through various obstacles. He is a real joy, and its funny every morning
to wake up to a nose in the face. Sorry the camera is not that great and
so the pictures aren't as pretty as they could be.
Best wishes,

Fenris is wonderful, getting very big. We do not know if he will be as
big as Phantom. He is not like Baloo, he is broader, "stamiger"? He can
sit, give paw, is learning to go on the line (he pulls a bit), learning
to greet people by sitting instead of jumping, retrieves like crazy
(ball, frisbee, etc.) and loves games we play with him. He is a very
nice looking standard poodle. We had of course the vet out for his
shots, and so on. I need to send you new pictures because he develops so
quickly. He has started barking when people come to the door. He has not
yet started to lift his leg. I can trim him all over, and he stands
beautifully for as long as it takes to brush and trim him. He has
excellent movement, which probably should be trained a bit more for show
(my personal opinion but, with the horses I cannot do show training for
him, although I am interested in different sports with him.) He is
respectful of the horses although does not go to them. He is a happy
guy, but much much more energetic than he was in the beginning. I have
no experience with poodles before, and I bet that he is much more calm
than most poodles but still very very energetic. You must make sure to
give him special play time every day, whether it is a long walk on the
line around the farmhouses and streets, or whether you spend time
playing with him and a toy (so ball throwing) or whether you take him
across our grounds without a lead and work to train him to follow
commands while not on the leash. It is all fun for him. When he is free
and not on the leash and I am mucking out the open stall, he tears
around like a devil dog running laps like a crazy greyhound.
At the same time, Fenris has been to the local "Gasthäuser" from almost
the very first day and understands that he must lay under the table and
be quiet. He loves to greet people which is the biggest problem at the
moment, as he likes to jump on them. We are working to correct this,
especially he loves young girls/children. However, he listens all the
time, although is (as we know from Billy Jack who is similar) stubborn.
Like BJ, he sometimes listens to commands and sometimes tries to see how
far he can go stretching the situation. He is a good boy, and loves
attention and loves it when he is correct, he is though living up to his
name, Fenris, and has his own mind sometimes about things, like BJ. This
would sometimes be considered a problem, but if one tries to work with
that, and make sure that he is seeing some kind of sense in what is
being asked, and also that it is fun, training him works wonderfully. It
is funny that a black dog and a black stallion can have so much in
common, although, a horse and a dog think and behave differently.
Fenris has regularly a visit from my mother-in-law and her Westhighland
Terrier, Snoopy. This helps Fenris keep doggie socializing. He learns
not to chase Snoopy, and still we let Snoopy tell Fenris when he has
stepped over the line. It is working well, and now that my leg is
healing and I am back to training horses, and most of my commitments on
Saturdays are done, I will be taking him to the Dog school.
I hope this all sound good to you? I sometimes have wondered about
really putting him up for show, but how with so many horses? :)
